El presidente de Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, llegó a Nueva York para participar de la Asamblea General de la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU), luego de las críticas que ha venido recibiendo en ese organismo y que han sido lideradas por el presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump.
“Vamos a defender la verdad de Venezuela, a traer la voz de nuestra patria. Vengo a recibir también la solidaridad de los gobiernos del mundo”, aseguró Maduro a través de un video divulgado en su cuenta de Twitter.
Sin embargo, la secretaria de prensa de la Casa Blanca, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, declaró que la reunión entre los dos jefes de Estado “aún no estaba planeada”.
La presencia de Maduro coincide con las sanciones que el gobierno de Estados Unidos impuso ayer a su esposa, Cilia Flores; a la vicepresidenta de Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, y al ministro de Defensa, Vladimir Padrino López, acción por la que calificó a EE.UU. de “cobarde”.
Pese a que Trump ha expresado su disposición de reunirse con Maduro “si eso ayudara a Venezuela” y afirmó que “todas las opciones estaban sobre la mesa”, según destacó Reuters, la Casa Blanca negó que hubiera alguna reunión agendada entre los dos mandatarios.
“Sólo quiero ver a Venezuela enderezada. Quiero que la gente esté a salvo. Vamos a ocuparnos de Venezuela”, dijo el mandatario durante la Asamblea de la ONU.
