Bogotá, 21 de mayo de 2019. El ministro de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural, Andrés Valencia Pinzón, afirmó en rueda de prensa que “en agosto recuperaremos el estatus sanitario de país libre de la enfermedad”. Esto hace parte de la estrategia que anunció el jefe de la cartera agropecuaria para los próximos meses, que incluye el viaje a la Asamblea de la Organización Mundial de Sanidad Animal (OIE por sus siglas en inglés), la cual se llevará a cabo en París (Francia) entre el 26 y 31 de mayo de este año.
“Queremos contar a presidenta de la Organización Mundial de la Sanidad Animal, Monique Eliot, los avances en la política de erradicación, la concentración de esfuerzos y de recursos para que el país pueda recuperar el estatus de país libre de la enfermedad, a partir de agosto si es posible”, dijo el ministro Valencia Pinzón.
Y es que el ministro Valencia Pinzón ha puesto en marcha dos ciclos de vacunación contra la fiebre aftosa y brucelosis entre 2018 y 2019, así como uno más de revacunación a comienzo de este año, que además es requisito de la OIE, con el fin de mantener niveles altos de protección en los bovinos y bufalinos.
Otros mensajes que se van a poner en discusión en la Asamblea Mundial de la OIE por parte del funcionario del Ministerio de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural es la importancia del comercio legal y la lucha contra el contrabando para asegurar la sanidad animal, la sostenibilidad y la seguridad alimentaria, así como la importancia del comercio mundial de productos de origen animal y la representatividad para Colombia de este rubro productivo.
También se va a exponer el tema de la importancia de aunar esfuerzos para atender el caso particular de Venezuela, “en donde no hay control oficial, caso que podría generar una afectación a todo el continente desechando años de esfuerzos por alcanzar el estatus sanitario y mantenerlo”, sostuvo el Ministro.
Además, Valencia Pinzón explicará un convenio con la OIE orientado a fortalecer acciones entorno a la vigilancia sanitaria en nuestras fronteras, la prevención del ingreso de la peste porcina africana, la vigilancia y el análisis y diagnóstico para nuestro sector acuícola y la resistencia antimicrobiana.
